Thank you director Buddy Bregman...

Director Buddy Bregman spoke to a full house at ScreenplayLab on Sunday. Special thanks to Raleigh Studios for hosting us! Buddy's directing a bio-pic called GARBO about Greta Garbo and another bio-pic called BLACK BUNNY about the first black Playboy bunny. He's directed stars like Donald Sutherland, Jane Fonda, Olivia Newton-John, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, and Jonathan Winters. As a composer and arranger, Buddy's worked with many jazz legends. His albums with Ella Fitzgerald have just been re-released. If you weren't there you really missed it!

Thank you pitch clinic participants...

We had three pitches scheduled, but only one person was ready. Justin gave a great pitch of his 1950s bio-pic. Way to go, Justin! We tried a new system where I pitch the writer's concept a couple times first for practice and audience feedback, then the writer pitches it himself. I'd noticed in the past that pitches get pretty good by the third try, but sometimes the feedback on the first two tries demoralizes the writer. Having me try the pitch first avoids that. Since we had time, I got to pitch three of my projects. That was great practice for me. Thank you to the audience for fantastic feedback.

Producer Jon Brown's tips for a great movie title...

From Jon's talk at ScreenplayLab last week. Need to come up with a great movie title? Try this:

1) is high concept
2) evokes an immediately feeling that you get what the movie is about without explaining anything
3) is funny (makes people laugh out loud when you say it in a room)
4) is two words you don't expect together (e.g., WEDDING CRASHERS)
