LAST CALL: Mixer on the 9th

Hope you had a great day on the 4th of July! We listened to THE SWING DOLLS sing Volare with a 60-piece band and watched the fireworks at Warner Central Park. I'm told there were 40,000 people at the event. It was hot! While there I ran into actor Jerald Garner [IMDB], who I hadn't seen in about a year. He has exciting news! He was a military officer in TRANSFORMERS. And, he's shooting today in an episode of UGLY BETTY.

Our first mixer at the new location in Beverly Hills is this Monday night, 6-9pm, at Sharky's Mexican Grill. We're going to have a blast! West-enders, you've got no excuse for missing this one! I love the location because I can walk there. Easy public transportation, too. Take the Wilshire or the Santa Monica bus and get off at Beverly Dr.

We have 40 RSVPs for Monday so far. The room, which is enclosed but outside, seats 50. There's no smoking at any ScreenplayLab event. Place your order at the counter and pay in advance. No fussing over the check. The food is inexpensive and uses organic ingredients. Park across the street in the Beverly Hills city garage for $2, next to the Crate & Barrel store. It's not far from the Museum of Radio & Television.

NEW LOCATION! Time to network! Mingle with working screenwriters, actors and filmmakers. Need help on your next project? Need an agent? Need a mentor? Need a job? In Hollywood it all comes down to networking. If we sit at home we might as well be back in Kansas, right? You buy your own drinks and food (inexpensive). Sharky's Mexican Grill, 435 N. Beverly Dr., Beverly Hills. Park in city garage next to Crate & Barrel for $2. July 9, 6pm-9pm and maybe later. Please note in the RSVP if you have to come late. FREE with RSVP at www.screenplaylab.com (not by email).

Update on script criteria for ScreenplayLab workshops...

I've updated our web page that explains the criteria for scripts submitted for our readings. We've been getting mostly unsuitable material lately, so I hope this helps. We don't get many script submissions. And, that's fine because I personally evaluate them. If we got a lot I wouldn't have the time. What we would like is that more scripts get selected for reading. That means upbeat commercial material please. Even if you haven't written a script yet, follow this link because halfway down the page is a pie chart of what genres are selling.
